Theo van Doesburg

Theo van Doesburg was a Dutch artist. He was active in a wide range of fields like writing, poetry and architecture. He taught himself painting. Originally, he drew pictures about human mind and emotion. In his 30s, he responded to new flow of paintings. After he was influenced by Kandinsky, he grew seriously involved with abstract.

In 1917, Theo van Doesburg met Piet Mondrian. They got along right. They founded the magazine De Stijl. In this magazine, they expressed Neo-Plasticism which abstracts entire life of humans. Later, in 1924, Theo van Doesburg launched a new concept for his art, Elementarism.
