Fernand Léger

Fernand Léger was born in the Argentan, Orne, Basse-Normandie. When he was 16, he trained as an architect. After he moved to Paris, at first he worked as an architectural draftsman. Later, he did military service. After he left the military, he began to work as a painter. Fernand Léger was influenced by neo-impossionist painters such as Paul Signac and Henri Edmond Cross.

In 1910, Fernand Léger drew "Nudes in the Forest", which was the origin of his cubism. In this painting, he simplified people and trees.

He tried to express urban dynamism, which Picasso and Braque did not tried to do. Fernand Léger used the curve line and stayed true to Paul Cézanne's methodology. Finally, he reached the almost complete abstract.
