Hans Hofmann

Hans Hofmann was born in Germany. When he was six years old, he moved to Munich. He studied in art school. Later he moved to Paris. In Paris he formed a private friendship with Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, Robert Delaunay. Hans Hofmann got a wide variety of expressions such as cubism and fauvism and expressionism.

In 1915, Hans Hofmann established art school in Munich and acquired international stature. In 1930, he taught at California State University. In 1932 he immigrated to the United States. (He disliked the rise of the Nazi Party in Germany.) After he taught at several schools, he established his own art school in New York. Hofmann's dynamic and passionate depiction had a big impact on many painters.

Hans Hofmann brought modern european method of paintings into America.
